Disasters happen. They are not predictable. As a Direct Care Staff member, understanding the steps to take in the event of a disaster is an important part of your position. Our centers are full of frail, elderly residents who are here because they are no longer able to care for themselves. In the event of an emergency, these residents depend on you and your co-workers for protection. This session was developed with you in mind. We will provide you with basics for preventing and/or responding to disasters in your center.
OBJECTIVES:
- State the importance of your role in the event of an emergency
- Discuss policies and procedures established within your center
- Identify the high-risk population living in your center
- Identify ways to assist residents to a place of safety
