Urinary Tract Infection - Direct Care Staff

Recorded On: 11/30/2022

As Direct Care staff perform perineal care, he/she should be observing the skin on the perineal area for signs of infection such as lesions or swelling, which can be early signs of more serious conditions. Providing appropriate peri care is also critical to assisting in preventing UTIs. Remember it is important to look for signs that may indicate infection.  This can include pain or tenderness in an area, rashes, sores, boils, burning on urination, etc..  If you notice any of these signs, report them to the nurse immediately.  Proper care can help your resident remain comfortable as they recover. Care performed regularly and properly will reduce the risk of urinary tract infection which can lead to bladder and kidney infection.

This program was developed to assist you the caregiver in providing quality care to your residents with improving their overall outcomes and independence.
