Alzheimer’s Disease is an insidious process and many residents become frightened which can often lead to them acting out. More than 5 million Americans currently have a diagnosis of AD and by 2050, that number is expected to increase to 15 million. Approximately 350,000 new cases of AD are diagnosed annually. AD usually begins after age 60 and the risks increase with age. Younger people may be diagnosed as early as age 30 and approximately 5% of all cases are believed to be familial (hereditary). Pretty scary stuff, right? This program was developed to assist you, the caregiver, in providing care to residents with memory loss related to Alzheimer’s disease.

- Describe what is happening inside the brain of someone with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD)
- List the three stages of AD and the symptoms associated with each stage
- Describe three ways to meet the personal care, nutritional and emotional needs of residents living with AD
- Demonstrate three strategies for communicating with residents living with AD
Attendees will be awarded 1.0 ANCC contact hours for completing the course/webinar.
