Almost everyone watching this webinar today knows someone near and dear to them who has a diabetes diagnosis. Think of how their lifestyle varies from yours and others who do not have the disease. This is a life-changing diagnosis and most people tend to struggle with managing their blood glucose levels and suffer from negative outcomes related to that.
As we age our bodies also age. The pancreas is the organ responsible for making insulin and sending it out to the body when it is identified that glucose levels are rising. If the pancreas is aging and doesn’t always react appropriately, we will have too much glucose in our blood. Some people are born without the ability to make insulin which is considered Type I diabetes and is not something that can be managed through dietary control or oral medications. These people will require the use of insulin injections to maintain a comfortable life.
This program was developed to assist you, the direct care staff in managing your residents with a diabetes diagnosis.
