Incontinence is not considered a normal part of aging however the incidence of this condition increases with age. The goal of bowel and bladder training is to help residents learn various techniques and exercises as well as adopt simple lifestyle changes to assist in controlling the incidence of incontinence. The interdisciplinary team plays a significant role in bladder and bowel management promoting open communication and monitoring the outcome of the program. Continence management includes assessment for incontinence, the promotion of continence, the proper use of continence-care products, appropriate toileting routines, and the evaluation of each resident’s care plan to ensure the continence program is being managed effectively. This program was developed to assist you the caregiver in providing quality care to your residents with improving their overall outcomes and independence
Objectives:
- Describe concepts related to bowl and bladder function and restorative nursing programs
- Identify specific toileting programs
- Define process steps for identifying and implementing behavioral toileting programs
Attendees will be awarded 0.50 ANCC contact hours for completing the course/webinar.
