Importance of a Quality Restorative Nursing Program

The focus and goal of a successful restorative nursing program has never been more vital than it is today. Today we are going to review how restorative nursing has been impacted by the new MDS changes that took effect on October 1, 2023. Restorative nursing programs refer to nursing interventions that promote the residents ability to adapt and adjust to living as independently and safely as possible. This concept actively focuses on achieving and maintaining optimal physical, mental, and psychosocial functioning. Acknowledging that functional decline can lead to depression, withdrawal, social isolation, and complications of immobility, such as incontinence and pressure injuries. This session on Restorative Nursing will focus primarily on how Restorative Nursing fits into the MDS changes impacting documentation and overall reimbursement and how you, the Restorative team can improve overall resident function while also maintaining a solid bottom line for your center.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Define Restorative Nursing
  • State how Restorative Nursing plays a role in PDPM
